Important Information about Rag Mags:
We have been informed of some fake Rag Mag sellers operating in Manchester and the surrounding area.
We have currently do not sell Rag Mags from anywhere other than the Rag office, so please do not buy them as the money from them will not be coming to us, and we can not guarantee that the money will be going to a charity.
If you do see people selling these magazines, or if they come up to you, please tell the police as that's the only way they can be stopped. The non emergency phone number is 0161 872 5050 for Greater Manchester Police.

Sorry for anyone who's emailed us, been into see us etc over Easter, we've not been around much as we've been off raising loads of money for charity (and we will be next week too!), but if you'd like to get in touch, just email me, and I'll get back in touch when I next get the chance!
We've just been to London for two days, where we met 10 other Rags and raised £3,383.92 for Meningitis Research Foundation. The whole event broke all records by raising over £50,000 to fight Meningitis, quite an impressive amount for two days work if you ask me!
We're also just about to head South for our tour for Breast Cancer Campaign, where we hope to raise even more money, before coming back and throwing ourselves straight into Rag Week. Have a look at the facebook group to find out exactly what's happening and when, and email ragweek@manchesterrag.com if you'd like to sign up to anything. If you'd like cheap/free entry/drinks at all of our events, then buy one our lovely Rag Week Wristbands from www.manchesterrag.blogspot.com and find out all the offers it will get you!
Apple have also been kind enough to donate an iPod Nano for Rag Week, you'll need to stay tuned to find out how to win it, but if you'd like to have a look at the other stuff that Apple do, and take advantage of their higher education discount, then have a look at their website!
We've also got a few places left on our Vietnam trip, so if you're interested in that, then pop into the office once term starts, or send me an email, and I'll get back to you with all the details!

So the year is nearly over, and exams are starting (good luck everyone!). We've had a really good year, and are very excited about next year! We have some amazing things planned, including new events, more events and making a lot of our events bigger and better.
We've still got a couple more collections lined up, so keep an eye out for those, and there is still some sponsor money to come in, so we're still working out our final total, but we'll let you know how much you've raised soon!
Speaking of next year, we've just launched our new Bogle website, head to www.bogle.org.uk to find out more about it, and how you can get involved with it!
Good luck in your exams!

It's been ages since I updated this again. Sorry.
We had a very successful bogle with nearly 200 people taking part, which is the most that we've had for a fair few years!
And its all systems go for Rag week, we've got so much planned, lost, abseils, shark dives, skydives and sphereing, as well as the pub quiz, swao shops, a scavenger hunt, kareoke and the almighty cider fest.
We've currently raised over £70,000, so lets see if we can break £100,000 by the end of the year, come and get involved with Rag week.

So it's a Tuesday, and I'm updating the website! Yay, no shin bruises for me!
We've got a couple of bits and pieces to keep you informed about this week, we're not doing much as you're obviously going to be far too stressed with exams! Firstly, this Saturday, we have a collection at the United Ground. If you collect there, you get your name put in a prize draw to win a ticket to see a United game for free!
Also, We're going to be at Pangea, selling sweets in the twisted fairy tale, and also in the retro games room supplying you with games and music! We're going to need plenty of volunteers for this, so if you fancy a free ticket to pangea, and are willing to help out in one of the rooms for a couple of hours, then we're the people for you!
Rag are also going to taking a trip to Glastonbury this year! We've been offered 10 places to steward at the festival. All you have to do is raise £150 for Oxfam (we're already on it, and have some events planned), and do a couple of stewarding shifts while you are there. Then you get to see all the bands you wanted to see for free! (plus you get a nicer camp site with more toilets and showers!). We need to know who wants to come soon though, so email info@manchesterrag.com to sign up!

Happy new year, and infact decade! Last year saw us working stupidly hard to raise £30,000 for a massive variety of charities! The Beerfest was a massive success, as was Jailbreak and all the other little bits and pieces that we've had going on!
One of my many new year's resolutions this year is to keep the website a lot more up to date. Its been lagging behind a bit recently (as you can probably tell), so now, every Tuesday morning, will be Website morning. Feel free to kick me in the shins if its not!
We've got loads of things coming up this year. From collections in London, Edinburgh and Liverpool, to the raids tour. we've got Bogle coming up, so if you'd like to get involved with that, then let us know, and of course, Rag week. The week of mayhem all in the name of charity. We're still looking for people to get involved in everything that we're doing, so if you've been a bit more busy than planned last semester, feel like getting something extra for your CV or just want to do a bit more fundraising this year, then come along to one of our events and we'll start raising money!

Sorry its been so long since this has been updated. We've just been really busy (which is a good thing!)
So, to Rag....
We've got a lot going on at the moment, we've got a meeting tomorrow (the 7th) about Jailbreak, in Council Chambers at 5.30. Come along if you're interested in finding out more about the event.
We've got a meeting on Monday 12th October at 5.30 in MR4 all about Rag week, and we're looking for people to help organise the week. And then we have a meeting on Thursday the 15th October about our Vietnam volunteering project, so again. come along to MR4 from 4.00 to find out more!
Other than that, we've been keeping jailbreak and beerfest ticking over, if you're interested in taking part in either of these, email us and we'll send you the details. We also had a very successful collection to Edinburgh this weekend. In total, we had 16 collectors, 13 of whom had never collected before. It was amazing to see you all there, and I'll tell you how much you raised as soon as I know! Everyone seemed to have a good time, and hopefully you'll all be back!
This weekend we're going to be going to Sheffield for the day to collect for Mines Advisory group, so if you're interested, then let me know.
We are also having a social on Thursday, where we are going to laser quest. We'll be meeting at 5.30 in the Great Central in Fallowfield for food and drinks before we go. The pub quiz in aid of Barnardo's on Thursday has had to be cancelled as there have been issues with the venue. We're really sorry about this, but Children of the Revolution will be back and organsing more pub quizzes soon! (We might even do our own!)
Other than that, we're working hard to get all the events ready for this year. Everything now has a facebook group, so join those groups and see what its all about. I should also probably warn you that we're having some issues with the server here at Rag, and emails don't seem to be getting out to anybody who has given their uni email to us. Sorry about this, its really annoying. We're trying to get it sorted as quickly as possible, but keep an eye out on here and facebook for more details of whats coming up!

Its all getting very exciting here, fresher's week is upon us and outside of the union is full of flyers, while we're just in the office putting the final touches to our stall for fresher's fayre. The Rag mags got delivered today, which was incredibly exciting, I'm just looking forward to giving them out tomorrow!
Other than fresher's fayre, we've been looking at www.factsaboutnuns.com, finished the envelope packing and sleeping getting ready for the onslaught of freshers week!
We're also taking sign ups for our collections to York this weekend and Edinburgh next weekend. Just give us a ring if you want to come along!
14/09/09
We've finally got the new website up and running, sorry if the wait has been killing you! There are still a few things we need to put up, like links to the forms to download for events and funding, but we're getting there.
Now just to get all the fresher's publicity sorted. Once I've done that, the rest of the week will inlcude packing the fresher's registration packs for the Union (council chambers Weds and Thurs if you want to help out), collecting on Friday and Saturday for the Anthony Nolan Trust, and waiting in anticipation for the arrival of the Rag Mags on Friday morning.

You have probably already worked out that this is where I'm going to be keeping you updated on all that is going on in Rag. Some weeks it will be hideously boring, others will probably just be a bit boring, some weeks, we might also say something interesting, who knows?

On the blog, we'll be mentioning the companies who've been lovely and donated to or sponsored events, how much we raised at collections, what we're up to next week, who pulled who at the last social and of course how you can help out, so keep an eye out for the updates!
Charities
Committee member: Kat
There are loads of ways that Manchester Rag can get involved with your charity.
Whether you have a street collection permit you think we might be interested in, want to apply for funding from us, want places in our Bogle stroll, want to hold an event within the University or are holding an event and want a casino at it then we'll be able to help.
We try to go out on a street collection every weekend during term time unless we have an event that weekend. Some weekends we'll even try to run a few. If you have a permit let us know. We go all over the country, for loads of different charities so just get in touch.
If you want to apply for the Manchester Rag Community Fund, then download the form here. We'll need all applications in by the 20th April, where you application will then go to committee for the final decisions. Our maximum grant from this fund is £500, and there will be a presentation evening in May for you to come and get your cheque, and meet the people who have raised you the money!
If you want to hold and event with us or within the university, whether you have an idea or not, then just get in touch. If you're in the Manchester area, its quite often best to come and meet us so we can chat about the many different options!
If you're holding a ball, a James Bond evening, or just fancy having a casino night, then we can help out. We offer our casino services completely free of charge to charities, and travel all over Manchester. All of our croupiers are fully trained and will come to play roulette, poker, dice and black jack at your event. Remember the house always wins, and you're the house!
If you want to benefit from Rag week, just send a letter to us, (address below) and let us know. Our event organisers pick which charities their event is for, so we put all the publicity we receive in a file and pick which charities we support from there.
If you would like to get involved in The Bogle, the download our charities pack below. If any of your questions aren't answered in there, send Jenny or Matt an email and we'll answer your question. The Bogle is one of our main events, which encompasses a 12 and 26 mile walk and 78 mile bike ride and the main event a 55 mile walk in a figure of eight loop around Manchester. Walkers are able to take part for any charity that they want. There are a limited number of places on this walk, so make sure that you get your supporters signed up soon! Please have a look at the Bogle page on the site for a some more information about it. The risk assessment and public liability insurance can also be downloaded below.
