Kilimanjaro

The summit of Kilimanjaro, the rooftop of Africa and the ultimate African adventure awaits those who dare! Kilimanjaro is the tallest free standing mountain in the world and stands at 5,895m. Kibo the snow capped peak is one of the most recognisable sights in the world of adventure and it is the challenge and goal for those who are prepared to tackle the landscape and the altitude to reach the summit.

The Kilimanjaro Summit trek follows the southwest Machame route to the top and as climbers make their way to the gates of the national park it is not uncommon to see the local wildlife as you go! Having signed in and passed through the gates of the park the challenge is about to begin.

Your guide and team of porters will support you every step of the way as you make your way over the Shira Plateau and steadily acclimatise to the altitude as you make your way round the spectacular Southern Flank taking in the sight of the Lava Tower and clamber over the Barranco Wall.

By night you will enjoy the star-studded African skies and by day you’ll climb higher often looking down at the sea of clouds with the peak of Mount Meru jutting through, making for a spectacular setting.

After several days walking you will have reached summit camp with Uhuru Peak within your grasp. Summit night will see the adventure start at midnight – your challenge will be the toughest physical challenge you will have faced as trekkers will have to climb 1295m reaching Stella Point before carrying round the rim to the summit. After basking in the glow of the rising African sun and an unrivalled sense of achievement climbers will then descend 2124m to camp having walked for 12 – 15 hours that day.

The final day of the trek will be the walk off back to the park gates where the trucks will be waiting to take you to the hotel for a well deserved hot shower, rest and celebration with your fellow climbers. Having basked in the glory of an unparalleled achievement of summiting on Kilimanjaro climbers will have 8 days of independent travel to experience the incredible sights of East Africa – a trip to the Serengeti or the paradise of Zanzibar is a great way to finish the adventure.
