Volunteer!

Bogle could not happen without the help of nearly 100 volunteers. Volunteering roles include:-

  • Checkpoint Marshalling – Feeding and registering walkers and offering encouragement as they pass through checkpoints. Checkpoints can be indoors or outdoors, so sensible clothing and a positive attitude are essential.
  • Route Marshalls  - Walking along with the participants and reporting any incidents back to Bogle Control.
  • Drivers – Driving one of our support vehicles or minibuses. You must be 21 or older and have had a full UK drivers license for at least 2 years.
  • Caterers – We provide over 2000 meals during Bogle and the catering operation is the most important thing to motivate walkers throughout the event. If you have a food hygiene certificate and would like to help with catering please email bogle@manchesterrag.com
  • Setup and breakdown volunteers – Helping in the days before and after the event. The entire route is sign posted so we send off volunteers in a car along the route to put up signage. There is also a massive amount of administration required before and cleaning afterwards.
  • First Aiders – Although we employ professional Emergency First Aid Technicians, we can never have enough First Aid qualified volunteers. If you have a current qualification in First Aid, please mention it when you sign up for volunteering shifts.

You are now able to sign up for Bogle volunteering shifts by visiting www.manchesterrag.com/portal , more shifts will be added closer to the event. Please sign up for as many shifts as you are available during the event, we will only allocate you to one shift.

Bogle shifts are long – logistically it is impossible to make any checkpoint shifts shorter as you could be posted anywhere in Greater Manchester. All shift times are advertised on a “worst case scenario” basis, we can only predict how fast walkers will go so have to plan for the worst, most checkpoint shifts will finish sooner than advertised. MLP hours will still be signed off at the advertised amount.

All shifts will start at finish in the Barnes Wallis building on North Campus, there will be a dedicated Volunteer Manager on site at all times who will ensure you have received a complete briefing, are equipped with everything you need and can be contacted in case of emergency. You will also have a checkpoint manager with you who will be a highly experienced volunteer and will take leadership if things go wrong, however everyone is working a team to make the event success and as such if you have a suggestion for making something better during the event – let your checkpoint team know.

Attendance to a briefing session prior to volunteering is compulsory for all checkpoint volunteers including registration and finish line.
