Information for Charities
Manchester RAG is the official fundraising arm of the Students’ Union. Charities should note that we work for students, not charities. We have an obligation to help students who wish to fundraise in any way we can, and this often means we do not have the time or resources to meet most requests of charities.
We do work with dozens of charities over the year to raise funds for their good work. There are several ways in which we work with charities:
Charity Partners
For some of our major events which require a lot of logistical operations we have nominated charity parters to whom all fund raised are donated. We have selected all our charity partners for our major events in 2011/12 and will approach local charities we feel may benefit if we choose to change these for 2012/13.
For our current charity partners please check out the events page and click on each event to find out more!
Street Collections
If you have a collection permit for any city in the UK or Ireland, get in touch with raids@manchesterrag.com who will be able to advise you as to whether we will be able to bring volunteers along to your raid.
Manchester Community Fund
Any profits remaining in the RAG account at the end of the year are distributed to charities who apply on a grant basis of £500. We only donate to charities which meet the following criteria:
- Working in the North West
- Do not support animal welfare
- Do not have a party political or religious remit
An application form for the Manchester RAG Community Fund can be downloaded HERE , and charities will be selected in early April 2012. Successful applicants will be invited to our beneficiaries evening in early May. For any further questions please email secretary@manchesterag.com
The best way to work with Manchester RAG
Manchester RAG recieves emails, post and phonecalls from charities on a daily basis requesting support or for us to run an event on their behalf. We do not have the capacity to support many of these requests, however we are obliged to support any fundraising effort by students in Manchester. Therefore the best way for you to work with RAG is to recruit student volunteers who will work with your charity and Manchester RAG to raise funds.
Manchester Leadership Programme is a fantastic way to do this, students as part of their course must fullfil a minimum number of hours volunteering. We can base your volunteers in our office and give them our expertise and resources to help them make the fundraising happen. Visit the MLP Website for more information about the scheme and phone us to discuss how this would work in practice
